Dear M,
It is so funny how fast time goes by and how quickly one can be in somebody else’s shoes, especially somebody one judged before…
I recall when you told me so many times you had faced the same situations I faced, and I have to admit I didn’t like it…’yeah, sure, you know everything, I must learn, but I want my personal experience’, this was my thought… and I had this thought not because the way you expressed yourself was bad, you always found the compassion and the patience to speak in a polite way – not to offend us, it was because maybe I was just a child, and I wouldn’t admit to be fragile, to be treated as a child.
And now, it happens to find you in my words, in my acts toward my children and I am aware of this, I am trying to correct myself, not to put them in the same position and in the same time to correct them: to help them avoid having the same results of the given situations… So, today, the answer hit me: you were trying to teach us to be better than you, because you knew we could. We couldn’t believe this, but for you it was a certainty, and what you always meant is:
‘I’ve been there, I know how it is, even if different times, different generation… and I was reckless, it didn’t work; but you… you are better, you really are! And you can achieve everything, if you believe it and keep your focus’
I had never heard it, but now I am grateful that you had walked in my shoes before.
